DESCRIPTION: APW - Waltham, Railroader, Model 1888, 17J, 16S, coin silver OF case with attractive engine turning and engraving detail, white enamel SS dial, SW-LS, nickel damascene with concentric curving pattern expanding outward from the balance area, frosted finish winding wheels, s#7450555. A very rare watch in its Model 1888 version, the "Railroader" was made in both lever-set and stem-set variants and is one of the very few Model 1888 movements to be found with lever-setting feature.
CONDITION: Mvt: Running, setting mechanism occasionally slips or makes a small clicking noise, bright lustrous plates with scattered fine and micro-fine scratches, area around balance jewel setting with some fine scratches and with some areas of abrasion inside attachment point of regulator, winding wheels with fine scratches and with some patches of oxide, some oxide to regulator; dial with some faint hls; excellent hands; case lever-set slot with evident filing marks indicating likelihood case is not the original to this mvt, case shows light to medium wear, a moderate patina, some fine scratches to rear including what appear to be faint remains of lightly scratched initials on shield, small ding to band at 2, cuvette with some dents, reduced engine turning and engraving detail; bow pivots semi-freely, crown shows light wear; missing its crystal.
